Airport Name and ICAO/IATA Code
El Salvador International Airport (ICAO: MSLP / IATA: SAL)
Location (City, Country)
El Salvador
Airport Type & Size
El Salvador’s main airport, handling nearly 5.5 million passengers last year, with its 3 biggest routes being LAX, Houston and IAD respectively. Good generic airport I feel.
Single runway, Runway 07/25, 3,200m/10,499ft.
Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
It’s a smaller Central American airport which can accommodate 747-400s happily and 747-8F using the full length of the runway if heavily laden. Also, based on its profile, it could make for a fab generic airport for Central America
Major Airlines & Routes
Avianca El Salvador and Volaris El Salvador are both the local airlines as well as previously TACA which became part of Avianca in the 2010s.2010,
Unique Features or Challenges
Erm, not really as far as I can see. El Salvador Air Force has Dragonfly’s based at the airport. Looks pretty.
