:chart_increasing: Airport Type & Size

Opened 11 August 1959 (66 years ago)

The largest international airport in Russia. A federal hub, it has 3 runways and 6 passenger terminals (A, B, C, D, E, F). The annual passenger traffic exceeds 40 million people (before the pandemic, it was over 49 million). It accommodates wide-body aircraft (including Boeing 777 and Airbus A350) as well as business aviation.

Terminals:

β€’ Terminal A β€” serves business aviation, located separately with its own infrastructure.
β€’ Terminal B β€” completely rebuilt in 2018 on the site of the old β€œSheremetyevo-1”. Mainly used for domestic flights of Aeroflot and its subsidiaries.
β€’ Terminal C β€” new section opened in 2020, used for international flights, including Aeroflot’s international routes.
β€’ Terminals D, E, F β€” the Southern Terminal Complex. Terminal D was Aeroflot’s main terminal for international and domestic flights, now transferred to the airline Pobeda. It is connected to Terminals E and F by pedestrian galleries.
β€’ Terminal E β€” connects Terminals D and F, serving both international and domestic flights.

β€’ Terminal F - serves international flights

Cargo Complexes:

  1. Moscow-Cargo
The Moscow-Cargo complex is the largest cargo facility in Russia, covering an area of 42.3 thousand mΒ² and designed to handle up to 380 thousand tons of cargo per year.
  2. Sheremetyevo-Cargo
Sheremetyevo-Cargo is one of the largest cargo terminals in the Moscow aviation hub, operating at Sheremetyevo Airport since 1989. It serves international and domestic cargo flights for 36 partner airlines.

Currently, Sheremetyevo is implementing a large-scale long-term development program. The first phase of the reconstruction of Terminal C has been completed as part of the development of the Northern Terminal Complex (NTC), covering 116,000 mΒ² with a capacity of up to 20 million passengers annually.

Runways:
- Runway 1 (06R/24L): landing
- Runway 2 (06C/24C): departure
- Runway 3 (06L/24R): landing only
Landings are mostly from the east side (24L and 24R), as winds are predominantly southwesterly and northwesterly.

Sheremetyevo Airport has a direct rail connection via the Aeroexpress train. The train arrives at the terminals B–C and F, E, D.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the largest international airport in Russia and one of the top five hubs in Europe. The terminal complex covers over 570,000 mΒ², with a capacity of up to 110 take-offs and landings per hour (around 800 per day) and 87 million passengers annually.

The airport serves more than 214 domestic and international destinations, has 5 passenger terminals and 84 jet bridges. Sheremetyevo is a leader in flight punctuality (OAG, Cirium) and holds a 5-star Skytrax rating.

Sheremetyevo UUEE in WOA has the following characteristics:
β€’ Total number of stands, including stands of types 127R / 127 / 127L, excluding DE-ICING and Terminal A (business): ~311
β€’ Full capacity for β€œE”-class aircraft, including remote and multi-use stands: ~91
β€’ Approximate number of remote stands of all types: 187
β€’ Number of β€œE”-class cargo stands at Cargo Terminals 1 and 2: 16 (also serve as common stands for both PAX and Cargo).
β€’ Total number of multi-parking cargo stands (A–C, D–E, F): 49

:vertical_traffic_light: Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
Why Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO / UUEE) should be added to World of Airports
Sheremetyevo is the largest and busiest airport in Russia and serves as the main hub of Aeroflot and its subsidiaries β€” Rossiya and Pobeda. Aeroflot is a major international carrier with an extensive route network. The airport features five passenger terminals, one business terminal, two cargo terminals, and three parallel runways. This complex infrastructure provides rich opportunities for realistic flight operations β€” from long-haul international routes to dense domestic and regional traffic.

As my home airport, I sincerely hope to see Sheremetyevo included in World of Airports in the future. It may not happen immediately, but it certainly looks like a promising possibility for upcoming updates.

Furthermore, despite its large size, Sheremetyevo is not so massive as to negatively affect game performance, making it a suitable addition in terms of both realism and playability.

:world_map: Unique Features or Challenges

Unique Features and Challenges:
β€’ Harsh winter conditions: Sheremetyevo experiences long and snowy winters from November to March. Heavy snowfall, poor visibility, and icing can significantly affect airport operations. This requires constant snow removal, de-icing procedures, and often leads to delays or cancellations. The airport operates a large fleet of specialized equipment to handle winter weather efficiently.
β€’ Three parallel runways and a complex taxiway system: While having three runways increases capacity, their operation requires precise coordination. This is especially true for Runway 3 (06L/24R), located far from the terminals and mostly used for landings, which increases taxi times.
β€’ Long taxi distances: Aircraft using Runway 3 face significantly longer taxi routes to and from the terminal areas. This impacts fuel consumption, increases turnaround time, and can affect gate availability during peak periods.
β€’ Complex terminal layout: Sheremetyevo consists of two main terminal zones:
β€’ North Terminal Complex (Terminals B and C)
β€’ South Terminal Complex (Terminals D, E, and F)
Terminal A (for business aviation) is located separately.
Despite the presence of an underground automated inter-terminal train, navigation within the airport may be challenging for passengers, especially during short layovers.
β€’ Aeroflot group operations hub: As the primary hub for Aeroflot and its subsidiaries Rossiya and Pobeda, Sheremetyevo handles a high volume of coordinated takeoffs and landings during specific bank periods. This requires accurate slot planning, efficient ramp management, and strict adherence to schedules.

Is this the main Moscow airport?

FYI that is way to much scrolling lol

It’s one of the major airports in Moscow and in Russia.
It handles the highest number of flights.
Besides Sheremetyevo, there are also Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and a couple of smaller airfields.

Alright, thank you for your feedback. I’ll keep this in mind going forward))

Likely not going to be added due to Russian sanctions

There are no Russian airlines

Yes there are, They just dont leave the country!!

One perhaps u might know is Aeroflot!!

As @woa.17.wewak already said, they do exist.
Such as Aeroflot, S7, Rossiya, IrAero, Aurora, Ikar, UTair, Smartavia, Nordstar, Pobeda, Red Wings Airlines, Ural Airlines, Yakutia Airlines, Nordwind Airlines, Volga-Dnepr Airline, Royal Flight, Yamal Airlines, and others.
They haven’t been added to the game yet.
Hopefully, they will appear over time β€” that would be great.

Not entirely true β€” there are international flights, but not many, mostly to Asia and neighboring countries.)

This is an example.

I understand, it makes sense given the current situation.
You’re right, that’s how it is at the moment. But after all, this is just a suggestion and a discussion, like most other airport proposals β€” some of them may or may not have a chance to be added to the game.

They actually do go to Bangkok, which why I was surprised it was being added.

Oh really, i never knew that :open_mouth:

Most of Indonesia and the middle east still allow Russian airlines to fly in (to my limited understanding, could be horrendously wrong here so take my word with a grain of salt), it’s the west that has the sanctions on Russia the most

You’re completely right, though Aus, Japan and Kiwiland are in that list too. Think SK might too but not sure on that one.

you sure about Australia?

So technically Aeroflot could be added to the game again at Bangkok only, not sure if they fly to Hong Kong or not.

Pretty much the Countries that sign with the West, So South Korea and Singapore on that banned list as well.
