:pushpin: Why should this airline be added?
Operating from Copenhagen as its main base but also Stockholm and Oslo as its 2 secondary bases, this airline began life as Conair of Scandinavia (Not the Nic Cage one :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) which merged in 1994 with Scanair to form Premiair, itself acquired at the same time by Airtours of the UK. It flew as Premiair until 2002 when it became MyTravel Airways Scandinavia, following its parent which had rebranded as MyTravel Airways. It continued with this name until in 2007, MyTravel merged its operations with Thomas Cook, retaining the TCX name but keeping the majority of the fleet and infrastructure of MyTravel. This merger led to MyTravel Scandinavia also having its name changed but this for some reason wasn’t done until 2008, meaning that the majority of the UK fleet had been repainted before any repainting began with the Scandinavian fleet. The airline was slowly rebranded throughout 2009 before finally disappearing in September 2010 (Just inside the liveries window yay, a good excuse then to bring the whole fleet in as well as the UK parent ).

It was rebranded to Thomas Cook Scandinavia which it flew as until the Thomas Cook group collapsed in 2019, leading to it being rebranded to Sunclass which we’ve just been graced with 2 liveries from and which is flying to this day.

It should be added as it was a Danish and moreover a Scandinavian travel icon (much like its UK counterpart which also should be added as the liveries were identical) which flew millions of people across Europe and further to the USA, Caribbean and Middle East on excursions as well as still existing in the form of Sunclass. Having both of the MyTravel’s as well as TCX’s remaining fleet, Thomas Cook Scandinavia and Sunclass’ remaining fleet would fill out the European charter holiday scene and would be a great addition to airports such as INN and BRI.

Was trying to use the wayback machine to find the destinations map but sadly it doesn’t exist so instead here’s the website from 2005,

And 2006 (The A330 at the top is animated in flight - link),

A cool section of the round the world tour the airline conducted in 2006 with one of their A330-300’s,

Adding the text from above in English cause I realised it was a picture of Danish which isn’t too useful for anyone outside of Denmark,

Celebrating Spies’ 50th and Simon’s 85th birthdays with a new round-the-world tour

PRESS RELEASE FROM SPIES:

On Friday 1 September, travel legend Simon Spies would have turned 85. It is also the official 50th birthday of Spies Rejser, which was started by Simon on his 35th birthday.

When Simon Spies really wanted to pamper himself, he took a Conair plane out of service, rebuilt it with, among other things, luxury seating, bar and piano. Then he flew out into the big world in the company of his midwife and the rest of his happy “court”.

Spies Rejser has chosen to mark the celebrations by making a new 21-day round-the-world journey in Simon’s footsteps. The sale starts on the birthday on Friday at 11 a.m.

The departure will be on 21 April 2007. Along the way, they will have approx. 400 passengers in their own Airbus 330 aircraft from MyTravel Airways visit nine destinations on the approx. 44,202 km air cruise around the world. Price: Only DKK 59,995 including high-standard hotels (minimum four stars), breakfast and a number of other meals, excursions, entrance fees, Danish guide service, etc.

On the journey around the world, stops are made at the following places:

Buffalo in the USA – excursions to, among other things Niagara Falls.
San Francisco - i.a. visit to Alcatraz prison, city tour and Golden Gate.
Hawaii – Waikki Beach and Pearl Harbor.
Fiji Islands.
Sydney with Utzon’s famous Opera House.
Cairns with the Great Barrier Reef.
Saigon in Vietnam.
Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.
Muscat in Oman – the small sultanate with chalk-white beaches, palaces and luxury hotels.

  • On the occasion of Spies Rejser’s 50th anniversary, we did a similar round-the-world trip earlier this year. It sold out within hours and hundreds were on a waiting list. We have received countless inquiries about a new tour. That is why we are repeating the success and making the new unique air cruise, says Director of Spies, Jan Vendelbo.

As mentioned, it is MyTravel Airways that provides an Airbus 330-300 for the round-the-world journey. In addition to the guests’ luggage, the aircraft’s hold will also accommodate plates, cutlery, cups, glasses and trays for serving 4,800 meals on board - a total of approx. 25 kilos of food per guest prepared locally, but served by the 12 cabin crew who accompany them throughout the journey. When the guests are on the ground, 12 “handpicked” tour guides ensure that the participants are serviced on excursions to the many sights.

An aircraft mechanic gets his own workshop set up in the space under the cockpit. During the journey, he can maintain the plane and e.g. change a wheel if necessary.

On the first round-the-world flight, guests were so delighted that they gave the journey a rating of 4.95 on a quality scale of 5.0. The guests collected approx. DKK 12,000 together for a party for the flight crew and tour guides. At the same time, the guests inserted a full-page advertisement in a large daily newspaper with “thank you for the journey”.

FACTS: The first journey around the world was 44,202 km. For the 405 passengers on board, it amounted to a total of 17,901,810 kilometres. In total, 440,012 liters of fuel were used - corresponding to 0.0247 liters per passenger kilometers.

Found a photo of it at SYD (A330-300),

Would make for a fab event.
