Shanghai Y-10 - Wikipedia

After the normalization of Sino US relations, China attempted to acquire Western technology through cooperation. The cooperation project of McDonnell Douglas is regarded as a “technological springboard”, but in reality, only low-end assembly capabilities are obtained, and core technology is still blocked. For example, although the McDonnell Douglas 90 project achieved a 70% localization rate, it was terminated due to Boeing’s acquisition of McDonnell Douglas, resulting in the idle of $500 million in raw materials and equipment invested by China. This reliance on external technology ultimately proved unsustainable. At the same time, the international aviation market has been monopolized by Boeing and Airbus, and the Y-10 is facing enormous competitive pressure. The United States further compresses its market space by restricting China’s aviation rights and other means. Without national strategic support, it is difficult for Yun10 to break through international technological barriers.
