An open letter to the forum

Hey everyone!

I have been noticing over the last few months just how absurd the quantity of suggestions has become. In the last 13 hours alone, 45 new items have been suggested. Aside from being a mild annoyance in having to click through all of these every time I open the site, there is also no chance that the majority will ever be added. There have been over 1200 suggestions made in the past, which would for airlines and liveries alone nearly triple the size of the WoApedia, and the pace of new ones continues to accelerate. I struggle to understand the point of mass-producing suggestions. It might just be me, but I think it would be much better if people took a break from suggesting stuff, or the category was locked temporarily, or something, because this has gotten out of hand.

Any opinions are appreciated. It may just be me, in which case I would like to know that too, but I suspect it is not lol.

Thanks!

Honestly I thought the same (and secretly, I was hoping one of the 30+ new topics I had to open this afternoon were the release notes). I feel like if we want to be suggesting so many liveries, we need to start thinking of actually valid reasons on why it should be added to the game. Not just because it’s missing or because it looks cool. What would it add to the game? Not saying any of these are bad suggestions because most of these would look really good in game. But I’m just saying if theres not real reason for it to be added then why should it take priority of 1 of the other 1000+ liveries on here. Just my opinion though dont mean to cause hate.

Hello,

Tis I,

I know I have been suggesting a lot, have been told to try to split them up so individual liveries and aircraft types are separate and its quite hard to do when livery is in game or a special livery is in game and I can’t dump the airline. E.g., did Northwest Airlines as a post, but the bowling shoe 747 is already in game and it was denied for that reason. I haven’t done anything else yet as I know it’s likely 20-30 posts and that’s a lot of work and time. I do try to just copy the description, switch the basic bits and add a unique section at the bottom.

I’ll try to limit them myself, would be nice if I could just suggest a bulk all in one, and maybe people could vote on which one they’d like to see, as that’s the reason I do it, so people can select the one they like the look of and it lets the devs see which is popular. Plus I did ask the devs and mods to tell me if it was getting annoying and so far I’ve not been messaged so I just kept going in the background of other things.

Anyway, I’ll take a break .

Cheers,

That is a useful alternate perspective. I hadn’t considered the voting side of it.

Obviously, I can’t deny that what I’m suggesting I would like to see in game, but I also know the community might not want that and see it as a waste of time. I like to see where votes go and then suggest something in that vain afterwards and see if that’s also as popular. I was quite surprised to see how little people cared for BA’s 757s but how many people wanted Kenya Airways 777-200s, hence why I didn’t bother doing the BA Blue Peter special livery, but did a couple of other Kenya Airways liveries I personally would like to see.

But yeah I’ll hold my horses, give others a go . Maybe the mods could think of another way to suggest missing aircraft for an airline, without having to do 30 posts.

Totally agree and it miss the purpose of the forum. It’s great to have a library of all airports and livery in the world but totally unrealistic to even think they will come into the game. Think about the impact on the size of our well appreciated mobile still technically and feature developing game….

Well, you have a better title to your post than our first attempt at addressing this topic:

I get the desire to let voting bubble up good options but the rate that these posts come in, it’s practically white noise, akin to how I browse my email (spam/ignore)..

I’m sure that authors intend for these posts to get views and votes, but I feel like all requests, good or bad, are simply buried in the flood, destined for ā€œpage 2ā€ or later, with a paltry 3-5 votes… which doesn’t really give the developers anything to go on?

I dunno.. I didn’t have any solutions then and I still don’t now, but I do foresee that this will continue.. and I guess I’ll just continue to ā€˜Mark as Read’ … and hope for a new release somewhere in there!

I do think that all the suggestions are valuable, it just we might need to find a way to separate the sections better so people focusing on voting and people focusing on discussing can directly see and get notified separately. The aviation culture is so amazing and special because of its diversity and long history, and sure it cannot be all achieved in one game. Hopefully we can find a great balance between people sharing their thoughts and not stuffing every other reader in the forum too much. Wish to see more updates in the coming months and get the development process more clear, haven’t been seeing a new dev blog for a while

What’s wrong with so many suggestions being made to make the game even more fun? The freedom to make suggestions is actually a good thing! We don’t live in a dictatorship where you’re no longer allowed to contribute anything.

Because it’s become excessive, no longer matters that much (will never get votes or added), and clutters up the forum. Period. It started out cool, but lost its purpose.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration, World of Airports is a big game for every aviation fan! It’s good that you can share your wishes and suggestions on a public forum. Who knows, maybe the devs will do something with them when they have time and incorporate them into the game. If there are too many suggestions, you don’t need to read them. I don’t read every post on this forum either. Period.

Another idea here: What if we as a forum vote on the many suggestions, and the winners get suggested to the devs? This would allow people to keep suggesting, and it stays within what is possible for this game.

Hello guys, just my two cents:

I personally really prefer having all suggestions in one place, here on the forum, rather than in the Service Desk.

We — or better said, I — will focus more on reading and responding to them, and we’ll bring into WoA everything that makes sense, improves game content or player experience (while keeping in mind that we still need to generate some revenue), or is just a cool addition.

What I hope is that before posting, people check past suggestions — so we don’t end up with dozens of nearly identical ideas that only differ in small details.

But on the other hand, that also shows us that you really care about the game and are actively playing it — and honestly, we can never have too much feedback.

So: think twice before posting, but don’t hesitate to share your ideas!

We already have the voting function enabled for such threads. This makes it easier for the devs to filter which plane/livery/airport/game-mechanic is most popular in order to (maybe) implement it

I don’t know too much about how the forum works, but I noticed one issue was people looking out for the release notes and wading through the suggestions to see if they’re there. Is there anyway that official items could potentially be pinned or something similar, as in anything from you chaps?

Thanks for responding, I do try to keep my posts unique as I hope it then shows my enthusiasm towards an item as opposed to spamming out things. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes! Shameless plug, but would love for something like this that only @Charlie and select others could post to..

Couldn’t agree more with the original post by @Thatflyerguy

Said it before, the forum used to be great for finding information, but it was getting flooded recently with requests of basically every one-off livery once used and bug reports about a pixel being on the wrong place. Sometimes like a dozen requests from the same person in one hour (AI anyone?)

The post by @Krankenwart mentioned somewhere in here as well also explains it well

100% agree with you. It’s overwhelming when I open the forum each time and see so many new threads. I get people are excited and passionate about the game, but it is a lot for me to handle and I’m not even an admin.

Thanks for speaking up about this. Happy flying to everyone!

The main issue is for me the liveries suggested. They come in with dozens a day. Maybe we should combine those into one thread, or one thread per Airline or Type. We can then update the first post with the ones that have been requested? That way it won’t be new topics either every time, and it becomes easier to navigate?

Gmail have a very simple solution for this : set rules like skip inbox —> move to folder xyz, when it’s unread in a folder it’s bold….all this keeps things organized and if wish to read than can go to the folder new livery. Not sure the options in this platform.
