ATP - British Aerospace ATP

:small_airplane: Aircraft Model (Name & Manufacturer)
ATP by British Aerospace (ATP means Advanced Turbo Prop though pilots cheekily called it ‘Another technical problem’, bit mean but about average for the 1980s British manufacturing sector, looking at you British Leyland)

I adore this plane, can you tell?

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Aircraft Category
Choose one: A / B / **C** / D / E / F
Wingspan 30.63M (100 ft 6 in)

:compass: Purpose or Role in Game
Regional turbo prop and freighter

Prototype livery,

Jetstream 61 (That sadly never went anywhere),

:chart_increasing: Why should this aircraft be added?
One of the last independent British planes built (probably one of the last things :sob: ), it was a development of the Hawker Siddeley HS 748 designed to be quieter and more fuel efficient due to noise constraints introduced in Europe in the 1980s and the 1979 Oil Crisis. Sadly, when it launched in 1986 for its maiden flight, it had the competition of the ATR family and the Dash 8 family so production was limited to 65 before BAE pulled the plug. The aircraft is still in-use with 8 aircraft flying in Kenya for freight.

:airplane: Airlines that use it
Aerospace Consortium,

Encomm Airlines,

Transafrican Air

(I’ve not included any photos as they’re mostly bad quality but all are painted white so look at the above photo)

Used it,

British Airways,

Landor,

Tartan tail (Yes these below are Sun Air),

Wings tail,

Colum tail,

Blue Poole tail,

Rendezvous tail,

British Midland,

Manx,

Emerald,

Air Europa Express,

And the previous livery to now (which should definitely come to the game as it lasted into the 2020s so this would fit as a regular livery),

Loganair,

SATA (Obviously only useful if we get an Azores airport, would make a good generic, or Porto/Lisbon/Faro/Madeira),

Biman Bangladesh,

LAR (An airline, Portuguese, operating from 85-93, had RJ85 and DHC6 as well as DO 228),

United Express,

First Flight (A Mumbai based airline),

Air Ostrava,

NextJet (Swedish airline that had too many liveries),

British World Airlines,

Converted freighter,

West Air Sweden/Europe/Luxembourg (These were only retired in 2023, I miss these buzzy bois),

West Atlantic,

Atlantic Airlines,

Air Go (A Greek cargo airline with 1 of these),

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Special characteristics or variants
There was the planned Jetstream 61 variant with 70 seats instead of 64 but it never got past the prototype sadly. Also plans for a maritime version for the Royal Navy and an AEW for the Aussies but these fell through.

Could operate on shorter, badly maintained airstrips.

Nah that was a train

Sad to read last week that BAe have now pulled the support on BAe ATP.

Ah that sucks. BAe should get back into regional jet manufacture, they’re rich enough to create some wacky creation.
