General Pre-Release Discussion

I know it’s featured at PRG but it’s one of the few airports (apart from BRI and SYD with only 2 stands, IRL has more) that has it. Even SXM should at C7-10 stand but the planes end up pushing back which is not necessary and I hope will be changed in the future.

So I’m just hoping that won’t be the case for ZRH

I completely agree!

i agree with making more accessible, you guys have probably seen the amount of defunct airlines ive been putting out (like TAESA) that i still believe would be nice to see as normal contracts due to the sheer number of aircraft and liveries, itd be a bit of a bummer if it was all locked behind events

but at the end of the day, it’s their choice, and if they have a reason (such as a technical reason) then i get it, i just personally would like to see more eras of contracts available for those who like to see such periods of aviation at their airports

My thoughts exactly. I’m honestly of the belief that post 2000 is similar enough that all should be available unless they were one off livery’s for larger airlines (For smaller it adds diversity to their fleets) or if they were special, which is when they should be events.

Pre-2000 I think should be played by ear. If the types are ones that were seen in regular use during the 2000s and 2010s, such as the 737 classics, A320s, MD80s, 757s, 767s and F100s to name but a few, then they could also be added in for increased diversity. I think the likes of Air Europe and Inter European Airlines would fit nicely at player airports without looking out of place. 737-200’s I’m a bit on the fence about and think if they were post 2000 then that’s okay like Air One, LAN or Lithuanian Airlines but the pre-ones like above for Air Europe and Inter European maybe could make for specials.

It also means some highly requested liveries like the Thai MD-11 could be added as regular and some airlines which vanished on the cusp of the decade like Northwest (With their B742 pax aircraft which Delta retired a month before the new year in 2009, just pushing a regular American passenger B742 the wrong side of the cutoff :sob: (You can see the dates on my B742F post) could also be available.

I understand technical limitations but I do feel we should be able to run our airports how we want. At the end of the day, I can run a Concorde and Comet fleet out Heathrow with A21NY’s and B789’s parked next to them, so realism is a bit strained if that’s the issue. I do believe current livery’s that visit in-game airports should be priority but I’d like to have the aviation I remember available for my airports which take me back to a more nostalgic time.

You know what, it would be really interesting if the devs would release an overview of the most to least used livery/aircraft combinations.

Something I’d love to have a nosy over. No point suggesting older stuff if the current older stuff never gets used lol.

I’m not really convinced there are technical issues with adding a bunch of liveries that are older. A livery is livery. They take up similar amounts of storage space regardless of which era they are from. I think the main issue is maximizing developer time for player benefit (as far as I am aware it is somewhere being mostly and only a singular dev who crank these out).

That said… I would imagine there is more correlation between plane type and livery usage than era. I imagine all F70 / F100 liveries regardless of how modern they are do worse than the old Qantas A388 as well as some of the retro 744s we can get.

Thats just my gut though… I’m not even sure how much the average player (suspect this is mostly players not on discord or the forums) cares about contracts beyond “I fly what I like”. I feel like the 100% optimized player fleet people, the realistic airport junkies, and some of the other play styles that are more information driven aren’t representative of the broader player base.

The latest Emirates or Qatar special liveries on the other hand…

Personally I think we have far too many of them that surface more often than they need to. Give me the BEA A319 over yet another A380 special any day, we have that planes home airport in game after all…

It is a pity to have so many Emirates A380 special’s but not the old coloured A380/B773 and A332. And Qatar really lacks on the C class front but has many 777 special liveries.

I just don’t get the recent fascination with the ME3, it’s just repetitive when you get the same Emirates liveries in repeat within a couple of weeks, or we get the latest Emirates special in game before we get better suited stuff for our playable airports. There’s also the cases of special liveries being added never to be used, which makes you wonder why it was added to begin with such as the Olympic A343 (granted it could still show up before 3.6.0).

I mean how many special livery A380s do we really need? Having BAs most up to date specials (we have none of the currently in service ones) would surely make more sense considering LHR is an in game airport unlike DXB?

In addition to that, no Jet2 regular A21N’s which would fit INN fantastically.

Silver Jet2 Neo and the Jet2 757s fixed and I’d be a happy chappy. :joy:

I guess it’s a case of seeing what 3.6.0 brings of course, and hopefully we’ll finally get some of the much wanted classics for the 747 and A340. Hopefully a Pan Am 747 or two to grace our airports… :crossed_fingers:

There’s so much truth to this lol. Some of the Emirates and Qatar specials don’t feel that special because they show up so dang often… I think this is also just symptomatic of the broader issues with special liveries…. too many not special ones, and most of the time these specials do very little to liven up the airports. It’s one of the systems that I hope sees a rework sooner rather than later.

The thing with Emirates and Qatar ones is they all look very similar to each other, using the airlines base livery, such as the Emirates ones, and then there’s just the fact we have so many in game that take the spot that other far more visually appealing and more useful liveries could have taken based on playable airports.

I honestly hope at some point the devs go back and give some of the underloved types some more attention, I know I keep bringing it up (surely you can forgive me as it’s a type I really do love ) but you’ve got really common types with not much variety and then rarer types with more variety. I’ll use the B752 and B753 example here where the B753 has almost as many liveries as the B752 (I’m only basing this on the passenger B752), despite the fact the B752 far outnumbers the less than 100 753s that were built, as another note the B753 almost has all its recent commercial operators in game, just missing the likes of Northwest, Skyline, ATA and Thomas Cook and that’s a type almost fully represented.

From the perspective of someone who likes a mix of modern, defunct modern airlines and retro contracts, I personally wish the developers would make the event liveries that are added available as a regular contract in some way, such as silver planes to unlock them. I also think regular liveries that people can use at their airports (ie Thomas Cook A321s or 752s for INN, or a Eurowings A321 and A21N, something even the newest players might realistically be able to use) are more interesting than more of the newest special liveries from airlines that already have a sizeable livery selection in game (again circling back to Emirates and Qatar as the 2 most notable examples), ultimately giving us that variety of different types we can use when playing and not being limited to say 1 type like we currently are with some airlines. I personally think the balance between standard contract liveries and event contract liveries in 3.5.0 was really good, with most of the focus being for stuff we can use on a day to day basis at our own airports, and some nice event liveries added into the mix. I can obviously get behind some of the newest specials, like that new Qantas XLR livery looks nice for example.

My hat goes off to the games developers for what they do, I’ve been playing since the games launch so I’ve seen a lot here, and how far the game has come since its release, but the event liveries post 2.0 are something I’ve never really thought are being used to their full potential, or in ways that get the most use out of said liveries. That’s including the ones where you wonder why they were added with how little use they get, or in some cases if they even get used at all. I think it’s also a reasonable opportunity to mention the examples of standard liveries that have been locked behind an event arrival such as the Flybe Dash 8, the B463 is a regular contract but then the final livery worn by most of the Flybe Dash 8s is locked away as an event despite it not being a special livery?

I don’t want this post to seem like I’m constantly complaining about the lack of 757 liveries, as I think I’ve done enough of that already (I mean hints in the name I guess :joy:), but more food for thought with the event arrival system, and possible ways to better utilise existing and any future special liveries that we’ll get.

This is honestly one of the very few things that irks me that there’s still so many liveries missing yet available on other variants. But personally as nice as it is to have retro liveries I still think current active airlines and liveries should be prioritized. I understand the hold on 737 liveries as these might be introduced with the remodel but other models that are already done could be given some attention, like certain missing 788 and A21N liveries

and the daily specials should be randomized a bit broader cause it’s usually the same liveries in rotation whereas there are liveries I haven’t even seen in the last 3-4 years of playing this game, I.e. the 789 orca

I 100% agree! I think the event system as a whole needs a rework.

Firstly, I think each airport should receive a random “special arrival” each day. I don’t think this would affect gameplay very much because event have such minimal rewards anyways, and the xp gained would only significantly boost levels 1-10 of the rewards pass, which isn’t exactly a negative. This would also help fill out the woapedia faster and reduces the long standing issue of some special liveries going YEARS between usages. And for this to be possible, there probably needs to be a list of events that are possible for each airport, to prevent things like an retro Austrian a320 showing up at SCL.

And secondly, for the events that the devs manually put into the game, like for anniversaries and things of that sort, I think the rewards need to be higher, like maybe 100-1000 sp each depending on the significance, or in REALLY special cases a gp, kinda like they do now but more than 1-2x a year. And if this were to happen, I feel like on the airport selection screen there needs to be 2 separate buttons to check for “events” and “special arrivals” so that players know the difference between the normal ones and the ones with a big payout.

Anyways sorry for the long explanation but I truly believe through this players will be more motivated to log in to claim their daily events and fill out their WOApedia.

If i am correct, ZRH is a similar size airport to SYD.

I actually like this idea

I don’t know if you’ve posted this in the suggestions but you should

I agree with each airport having atleast one everyday and like today at INN some airports get multiple randomly like SYD with all the Qantas specials and NGO with the ANA specials.

This part im against. For example aurigny and british company has planes that previous fly for avianca and you can see that.

You see for example also leased planes from us in europe when its high season in europe and european planes in us when its there peak season
