GIB - Gibraltar International Airport ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฎ

:round_pushpin: Airport Name and ICAO/IATA Code
Gibraltar International Airport (ICAO: LXGB / IATA: GIB)

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Location (City, Country)
The British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, United Kingdom :gibraltar:/:united_kingdom:

:chart_increasing: Airport Type & Size
Small international airport operated by the Government of Gibraltar and RAF and owned by the MOD. It has a single runway with full backtracking and a 2011 built terminal with 5 stands. It also has a cargo area used by the RAF but can be used by civilian aircraft.

:vertical_traffic_light: Why should this airport be added to World of Airports?
A fun unique airport that would be a fantastic addition as a small airport in a very unique location. Itโ€™d have a lot of complexities for operations, allowing for both pax and cargo flights.

:airplane_departure: Major Airlines & Routes
British Airways flies from LHR, easyJet flies from Manchester, London Gatwick, Birmingham and Bristol. The airport used to have ops from Eastern Airways from Southampton and Birmingham, Monarch from all of EZYโ€™s bar Bristol, easyJet flights from EDI, LPL and Luton, BMIbaby from East Midlands as well as non UK flights with RAM from Marrakesh and Tangier, Iberia from Madrid and Andalus from Madrid and Barcelona.

:world_map: Unique Features or Challenges
Long backtracking, windy landings, road crossing the runway (Pre-2023 but could be added in as an extra level of fun), the stunning views of the planes approaching over the sea and past the rock of Gibraltar, limited space for operations and maybe as a bonus operation, Morrisons has to have its meat products flown in to the territory due to restrictions on UK meat entering Spain so this could be an added complexity.

Previous suggestion from 2020.

Some of my pictures from when I went in 2021, brilliant airport could be a really nice generic airport!

I disagree, GIB being a generic airport would probably defeat the entire reason people would want it in game. Itโ€™s a unique airport with some very interesting surrounding scenery.

This is such a unique airport that making it a generic would be a travesty. Iโ€™m a bit worried that if itโ€™s released based on its current collection of airlines that it would be quite boring to play though. I think for this airport to work some historical airlines would need to be emphasized. Given that Monarch Is one of the historical largest operators prior to its bankruptcy, making them a primary local airline may be quite an excellent nod to its history.

On the subject of Monarch, they did also send 757s there as well. So long as the older Monarch and easyJet liveries were added to bulk up its contract variety alongside the Eastern E-Jets, then you should have a nice selection of pretty much every real contract and the games usual selection.

Yeah, as a generic I feel youโ€™d lose all the charm of the airport. It would make for a good one to have outside of the main airport progression tree like CNN, purchased for gold, but one thatโ€™s fully modelled. Iโ€™d love for a bit of historical twisting, the modern airport layout but with the road (Sir Winston Churchill Avenue) still being in use providing an extra bit of challenge to the airport and preventing the airport having aircraft constantly landing and taking off due to the traffic building up. Iโ€™d also love the Vulcan to be on show but that depends on if the devs are willing to have a small piece of 1990s history attached into the 2026 airport. These photos are great thanks for sharing them, big fan of the Eastern E170. Had no idea Wizz flew in there though, that slipped by me lol.

Thought Iโ€™d add in as well down here, the airport is famous for having RAM operating the worlds shortest TRANSCONTINENTAL!! flight from GIB to Tangier and onwards to Casablanca which is an added unique aspect to an already unique airport.

The ATR leaving for Tangier below,
