:pushpin: Why should this airline be added?
Founded by Michael Hartley in 1982, The Hawaii Express was a short-lived passenger airline that operated flights between Los Angeles, California (LAX), and Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL), with the airline nicknamed “The Big Pineapple” and initially starting services with a singular Boeing 747-100, which featured a unique paint job with a mango-colored tail and a rainbow-colored stripe down the side.

The airline consisted of employees from previously defunct American airlines, with the airline’s original crew members included fifteen pilots from Braniff International Airways, while the original fifty flight attendants were furloughed from various major airlines in the United States. All crew members were based at LAX with maintenance and gate facilities provided by Trans World Airlines.

The airline would go on to acquire two DC-10-10s in May 1983 to replace the B747, although all three aircraft were operated simultaneously for a while. In December of the same year, The Hawaii Express suspended its operation and filed for bankruptcy.
