Innsbruck Airport / Kranebitten Airport
(IATA: INN, ICAO: LOWI)
(Graphics above courtesy of LeChonk)
General Info: Innsbruck is an airport in the Austrian Alps serving the fifth largest city in Austria and the capital of the Austrian State of Tyrol. It was founded in 1925 with the first commercial flight being between INN and MUC. In 1948, the airport we know today as INN was founded and in 1956 the Tyrolean Airport Company was founded based at the airport, which in 1958 became Airport Innsbruck. The name was changed in 1980 to Tyrolean Airways which was the main airline for the airport and which was eventually fully absorbed into Austrian in 2014 (A Dash 8-100 of theirs is a rare event at the airport). The airport became a large charter airport in the late 1970s which has continued today, welcoming all sorts of aircraft and airlines to its doors delivering holidaymakers looking for some fun on the slopes around the city.
It also had a large charter period in the 2000s for Tyrolean holidaymakers looking to explore Southern Europe and the Caribbean with many 767-300s chartered from Lauda and Austrian (As well as an occasional KLM) to fly them to the destinations, via Vienna for the longer haul routes due to the limited takeoff weight at the airport, though this is not replicated in-game and all D Class aircraft are permitted to land. It also received an A330-200 from Austrian in 2000 flying in from Vienna and back again as a publicity stunt, with a low takeoff weight due to limited passengers and fuel.
The airport can can service up to 11 A-D aircraft in game, or up to 6 D Class aircraft at one time.

Secret Achievement
In the charts above, kind of in between the river and the terminal, you will find a small helipad. If you wait 10 minutes after entering the game, a helicopter will appear. Tapping it gives you 50 Wollars and the Send a Rescue Helicopter achievement.

**Bonus Easter Egg**
Hidden in the Tyrolean Airways engine testing area is an Austrian ATR 72, a type never operated by Austrian or their subsidiary Austrian Arrows (previously Tyrolean Airways). This is a little nod back to the early days of the game before the Q400 had been added, where the Austrian ATR was the smallest local aircraft at INN.
See Stands & Costs for a more detailed overview of Stands!
Accepted Airplane Categories:
-
Commercial Aircrafts: A, B, C and D
-
Cargo Aircrafts: A, B, C and D
Aircraft Handling
- Aircraft Handlers - These are needed for the successful On-Time handling of aircraft. At INN you start with 6 total and it’s up to you how you allocate them. However for medium aircraft you usually need the total number for that aircraft to have an on-time departure.
With INN you only have a choice of S or M aircraft and those will need between 2 and 7 handlers. Hint: when you have M cargo, you generally can use less handlers than you would for pax aircraft meaning your total will go further. If needed you can also use the Automatic Handler option for ₩ and the aircraft will process for you. But it will cost you one of you available handlers too.
You can gain more handlers by completing levels: 3, 14 and 31, you can also buy them in the shop as shown below. Note that you can claim 3 free handlers, available for 2 hours.
Aircraft Movement:
-
Landing: Aircrafts land on RWY 26 most of the time but can land on RWY 08 when the wind dictates, it is daytime and the weather conditions are good. They then taxi to the gate. The majority of D planes will use the full length of the runway and backtrack. The exception to this is the C17, B752 and B753, which use the same exit as A, B and C planes.
-
Taxi-In: Since there is only 1 Taxiway, all planes use the same taxiway to get to their gates.
-
Holding Positions: Aircraft will hold short at the holding position on RWY 26 or RWY 08 taxiway for take-off (The RWY 08 hold is much nicer and prevents backups unlike RWY 26 where aircraft can block access to stands whilst waiting).
-
Take-off: Aircraft will taxi to RWY 26 or RWY 08 onto the runway. A and B aircraft will turn left or right for takeoff (this also includes the F100 and C30J, which are C aircraft). C and D aircraft will turn right or left and back-taxi to the start of the runway.
However, this airport has many drawbacks in terms of Aircraft Movement, see Limitations for more info
Limitations:
-
If 3 or more planes are in holding for take-off on RWY 26, this blocks Gate 11, 10, 10A & 9.
-
As mentioned, This airport is very slow due to the back taxi requirement. Even though the airport layout is simple it is not that efficient with Mass takeoffs due to the small number of stands.
-
The airport can only have 1 aeroplane lining up for take off at the same time, meaning you can’t line up a B plane while a C is back taxing for takeoff.
-
Take off queues are frequent, and landing a D plane will slow down landings as well due to the landing back taxing of D planes (except the C17, B752 and B753). This can be a detriment for B Class aircraft awaiting takeoff but you can time a C/D class to backtrack whilst the 767/A300/MD-11 also backtracks on the far side of the runway.

Stands & Costs:
When starting at this Airport, you get 1 A/B Stand & 1 A/B/C Stand.

Total Cost to buy all Stands: 145,000 ₩ (22,000 for all A options, 44,000 for all B options (Though you need to purchase A first), 66,000 for all C options (Though you need to purchase A & B first) and finally 42,000 for all D options (5 are seperate to the other stands so can be purchased whenever whereas Stand 11 requires the A/B/C options to be purchased first))

Player Strategies
@AviaWilliam suggests: Invest in Service trucks as early as you can so you can have faster turnaround times.
@Ivan0921 suggests: sell any gold planes you get (up to 4-5) to boost your ops. Your end goal is leaving INN because it is very hard to make money on it. Bulk handling strategy is highly advised. One full rotation, with maxed services, will take 10 mins exactly.
@ICEgamer1705 suggests: Once you have unlocked the ATR72 achievement keep it and do not sell it for one golden plane if you move on to BRI. It is tough to earn money in INN, and it will take a while to get enough money to buy a new plane. To speed up your in-game progress move as fast as possible to BRI even though you haven’t completed the connection rewards. You can come back to INN later in the game when you have earned money on other airports.
@Techestro suggests: Don’t invest in the Cargo Stands until you have a lot of money. I recommend it only when you have got a stable profit and unlocked all Stands. When you do plan to get a Cargo Stand, invest in [M] Cargo Stand and [M] Cargo Arrivals first, and if possible, get a [M] Cargo Fleet Plane. As @Ivan0921 suggested, Bulk Handling is highly recommended if possible to get Player Connections if you are struggling to get slot keys for more arrivals!
@FocusedDictum70 suggests: 1) When departing M planes, try to alternate a landing with a takeoff. Doing so, while the landing plane finishes taxiing at the end of the runway, the departing M plane will already be back-taxiing to the start of the runway, speeding up things a bit; 2) You probably won’t play INN much in the future, so, if you aren’t too attached to maxing and/or owning things, selling your couple first Player Planes as soon as you receive them will provide you with enough ₩ollars to speed up INNs start. Use it to buy Stands (Construction) and Equipment (specially Boarding, Baggage and Cleaning); 3) While sending your Player Planes to playable airports (blue dots in the map) usually won’t pay the maximum amount of ₩ollars possible, it won’t have any cost to set up the route either, so I recommend checking BRI, PRG, LEJ, LHR and MCT first, and sending it to one. Save the ₩ollars for Stands and Equipment.
Final thoughts & Additional Notes
INN is the least efficient airport in the game, and so if your goal is efficiency then working towards airports like IAD or BKK is ideal.
