Airport Tier List: The Best and the Worst

Which airport holds the crown? Which one is king of all airports? Well, unfortunately (or maybe it’s for the best?) there’s no such thing as THE one and only, best in everything. They all have pros and cons, some good for cargo, some for pax (passengers), some are just fun even without being great, and so on.

What I did was a Weighted Decision Matrix: graduated some features I considered important, then added their grades to see what would come up!

* Note: BKK, GRU and LHR got an extra point in the ‘Best Cargo’ column for having 1 RWY for landing and another for departing cargo. LEJ got 2 extra points for having 2 fully functional RWYs for cargo. These extra points were not added and did not affect the ‘Best Overall’ column.

Comments:

LHR, BKK and IAD at the top, no surprises here! SCL also turned up being a great airport, similar but better than MCT. But it seems a true king was born in 3.4.0. HKG seems to have no flaws so far: lots of stands, simultaneous landings in 3 RWYs, reasonable to fast taxi, great cargo, no RWY crossing, enough crew, low priced Premium Pass for it’s size (80GP)… if we were to elect the best overall, HKG would be the one. This would be the second place list:

  • 2nd Best F Pax: LHR
  • 2nd Best D/E Pax: BKK
  • Best B/C Pax: IAD*
  • 2nd Best E/F/G Cargo: BKK
  • 2nd Best B/C/D Cargo: LEJ*

* Note: IAD is actually the best B/C pax, being the exception in the HKG rule. LEJ may be the best cargo if you spend hundreds of GP in handling crew.

-BKK is a very balanced top tier airport. Long taxi +RWY crossing for cargo might be it’s biggest downside, and update 3.0 changed how close by RWYs work, hurting BKK (and GRU) the most - specially BKKs cargo capabilities;
-LHR is the only airport capable of landing and handling A388s nonstop. It also happens to have 6 out of the best player-to-player routes. Only 1 landing RWY is it’s main problem, followed by cargo crossing the landing RWY, slowing it down;
-IAD is the only one with 4 runways, and have decent taxi times. It’s the king of C Pax, with 3 RWYs for simultaneous C landing and 1 for C takeoffs. It’s the perfect, most optimal airport for a player-to-player C fleet of A21NY to SCL, LHR, INN, PRG and LEJ. It lacks cargo, and it’s biggest issue is not having enough handlers for all the big planes it can land;
-LEJ should’ve been the best cargo airport by far, but it strongly lacks handlers. Unless you have hundreds of spare Gold Planes to buy them, of course.
-SCL offers great taxi times and 2 fully functional RWYs as it’s strong points, but lack handlers for all the big planes it can land. If your goal is player-to-player connections, you should definitely focus on sending A21NY to IAD.
-SXM at the bottom of the list is no surprise for most. Unless you’re playing B size only (and you should!), those beautiful beaches ain’t enough to compensate it’s horrible backtracking for big planes.
