I think the Geneva leg would make more sense as that’s the one they are able to carry passengers on, although it’s something that would more than likely end up as a level reward using the A359.
As a reward like EK to BKK would be better for it I think
Do they do that then from MAN?
EK? no thats from HKG. ET has always operated via another airport in its time at MAN. BRU/MRS/GVA
I’m back again, this time I was actually trying to find photos of MyTravel and stumbled on this but I couldn’t let it pass
.
All the airlines in this picture are gone now which is very sad but they could live on if we ever got this airport in the future. I’d love to bring back airlines and liveries of yesterday so they can be remembered, enjoyed and live on
. Linking the chaps Airliners.net album. And his JetPhotos. Beautiful collections.
Only 1 in the below, the Jet2 733 closest to the camera,
And again, only the BA waiting to take off and Jet2 in the queue,
And again,
And again lol,
A few LHR/LGW/CDG diversions,
And a final photo,
It’s not just the variety of airlines but seeing working jet bridges on the far side of pier b feels weird also. These were all disabled and removed in the final years of pier b ops (bar stand 12 for EK). Pier B became the home or EZY, EI and the odd Jet2 (if pier C was full) and every stand was boarded via stairs
Someone please correct me but I seem to see that there isnt really a zoned cargo area.
There is, technically. The cargo flights use to use the remote stands alongside passenger flights, there are some of these remotes left but most of them have gone for a new taxiway to prevent backlog with most flights now going up to Terminal 2, but it’s believed there’s going to be some new ones made in the future. At the moment, the only cargo flight we have tends to be parked up on the remotes near T2s pier A and occasionally in the gated off area where the Jet2 hangars are.
One thing with MAN that I don’t think has been mentioned though is just how random its events could be. With the former painting facility and the 777 freighter conversion that’s currently on going, alongside the maintenance airlines have done at MAN, you literally could see anything there.
MAN also used to regularly facilitate Cathay Cargo 747’s sometimes even the -8F. The majority of the cargo on-board wasn’t for Manchester but they had it as a route for 15-20 years, I think it was cancelled in the late 2010s.
e.g. in 2014,
Silver BCF at the airport,
Normal BCF passing the spotters,
And the normal silver F,
Cathay also sent their 747’s to MAN and then they were flown onwards to Bruntingthorpe for scrapping. The final Cathay 747 flight took place from MAN on this route.
It’s, I believe, the 4th busiest pure freight airport in the UK so plenty of pallets coming in and out with lots of airlines and liveries carrying it.
Just adding a few big and little freighters too,
FedEx MD-11 (a rare visitor in place of the usual 757),
Lufthansa also used to operate L8175 from ATL via MAN to FRA which would be an ace addition (Used to drop some freight off, both the MD11 and 777 were used),
And an overview, the FedEx 757 to the left is where the cargo aircraft are unloaded. All the bays from the top to the bottom can be used.
Same with this photo from much earlier in 2012, can see the FedEx in the remote stands,
If I’m not mistaken, we use to have China Airlines Cargo flights as well as I vaguely recall one of their 747s being parked up when I went once. I know we’ve had a lot of one off cargo visitors as well, and still occasionally do.
MANs level reward contracts if added wouldn’t disappoint with all the varying airlines that have had flights to the airport, be they current or previous based carriers or simply some special liveries from other airlines. In all fairness the same could be said for its regular contracts you can buy now that airlines like Monarch have been added. If you want more recent stuff, the biggest gap now is Thomas Cook and the Flybe Dash 8 that’s an event for some unknown reason.
I mean your campaign is working haha, I would be happy to see MAN join the WoA lineup. I do wonder if it would be better served alongside Kai Tak or something tho in a historic WoA kind of thing where the time is deliberately set back to the 90s or so.
I think as it is now modelling wise but having the choice of the older airlines or having a very contract heavy batch of levels would be best for MAN to get some of the older variety in. The layout is more efficient now, and you’ve still got some older parts of the airport that still exist, such as the legacy T2 gates and T1 and T3, so you’d be able to get a nice mix of screenshots no matter what time frame it is you’re wanting to achieve with the contracts we’ve got.
It does worry me what @Hirohitoswaifu would get up to if MAN was added, he’d have to pick something else to keep posting on…
ultimately i feel like you would need to get a proper contract system overhaul to make MAN genuinely work well.
That could be something yeah, but in more recent times is it’s almost got everything it needs. After Monarch was added in 3.4.0, the only major airline that needs some more attention would be Thomas Cook.
I’d operate it as a mix of past and present myself, but for the folks who want mostly backdated stuff they might be relying on levels and events yeah. This is where some kind of option to buy contracts like that using silver planes could come in handy.
I don’t know how feasible it is but I’d love the same airport but setup modern and 1990s, you could have some crossover with Kai tak and then the modern airport, where contracts could be a little wishy washy lol. You could have some of the mid 2000s airlines mixed into the modern as I think they’d fit.
Minneapolis, Tenerife, Mallorca and Calgary pushing hahaha.
Oh this has hit me in the feels. what an interesting airport we used to have with all the charter crowd ![]()
Nice RSAF C-130 there as well.
Why do say that? It be fine now if MAN was added now.
