A lot of the appeal of MAN would be its old contracts and liveries, which would not be possible with the current system

To be fair though, a lot of the appeal already comes from stuff we can also get as regular contracts. For example, Monarch is a big airline from MANs past we’ve got, Thomas Cook is an airline that’s in game but needs some extra liveries to really make work for MAN, but would come under regular contracts, Flybe would only need the Dash 8 moving to a regular contract from an event arrival. It’s an airport that has chance to have a lot of local contract variety, split between say Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, TUI and Flybe with airlines like Monarch and Thomas Cook being big parts of the regional contracts alongside longer routes from the previously mentioned airlines.
MAN mostly has the majority of its current airlines and destinations in game, so scenes like the ones @Hirohitoswaifu have been posting should in large part be possible. Airlines like First Choice, Thomas Cook, Monarch, Thomson all fall under the time frame for regular contracts (Thomson liveries for example could put under TUI Airways as it’s the same airline), and that’s a big bulk of what you see here. Mix them with the airport as it is now and I think you’ve got something rather interesting, especially factoring in events.
You’ve also got to consider the airport from a player connection point of view, which I’d argue is another one of MANs strong points. Whilst it’ll be very similar to Heathrow, you’ve got the advantage of all airports can be connected to it with the exception of SYD, plus the advantage of spacing out connections around Europe.

And with a bit of wiggle room, MyTravel and others could be mixed in. Also the FlyBe white would be a priority lol. And in the top photo, FlyJet only had 757s so another 752 operator there as well as BMI who are perfect as a second local at LHR so 2 birds one stone (BMI baby too at MAN 
). Plenty of others as well which are not massive fleet airlines and had a type or two so would just add to the lineup.
Just adding onto the bottom of this, modern MAN with airlines and liveries since 2003/4 till now would be a dream. I’m sorry to say I’d likely never leave the airport 
but I’d be spending on the airport big moneys lol.

Not really, As you got any contracts in the game, American carriers, Canadian, European carriers Asia and so on. The C flights be between EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair. Hopefully they allow BA on the shuttle service to have B777-200ER or at least B757/767 as they done in real life.
One thing we havent mentioned on this is the amazing vantage points we could do for the cameras.
