And F-35A the other day as well but pilot survived that.

Guessing in the talking point it be why did the helicopter cross paths of approaching aircraft and why was their only one controller in ATC.

My guess is the helicopter thought that ATC meant another CRJ and the infact didnโ€™t see the AA flight. Rip to all who died.

The Metro Washington Airport Authority (MWAA) describes current C-D as โ€œtemporary concourses.โ€ If that is true, why wasnโ€™t a permanent replacement built sometime in the '90s, and why wasnโ€™t the project to expedite these temporary structures instead of creating a new 14-gate concourse with a primary focus of replacing regional gates, which arenโ€™t as horrible as the C-D gates?
I would love to know if anyone has the answer to this shower thought!

It is true that C/D was built as a temporary terminal to facilitate the fast-growing demand of flights to Washington during the construction of the main terminal, though as demand quickly skyrocketed, that temporary terminal could easily be used while a new, more permanent one could be planned and built. Other projects were prioritized as a new terminal was costly and the old terminal worked fine. As the construction of what Iโ€™ll call โ€œterminal Eโ€ kept getting lower as a priority, C/D was renovated in 2006 to last longer than it was originally intended. This is another reason weโ€™ve kept the temper terminal longer.

As for a regional jet terminal, โ€œnumber-letterโ€ gates off of terminal A were also a more temporary solution. In the 1900โ€™s and early 2000โ€™s they mostly served prop planes where passengers would wait mostly in terminal A. Though as more people have flown through both, these gates have become increasingly crowded and less enjoyable, in addition to not even having jet bridges (sorry Europeans thatโ€™s the norm even for CRJs). Many new regional jet terminal proposals have come to light and throughly looked through. The idea of โ€œterminal Eโ€ replacing C/D, and โ€œterminal Eโ€ replacing the number-letter gates have merged into one idea now. This is why it seems like C/D gates have been forgotten about.

In reality, both replacements are still in planning, and are subject to change. If you google โ€œIAD new terminalโ€ youโ€™ll get a small regional jet terminal concept art, which will likely be built judging by google earth:

Here is what is likely being built:

Weโ€™re closer to a new terminal than ever before, and likely it will be this regional jet terminal. Though thereโ€™s a good chance where we have the two L remote stands in WoA weโ€™ll soon see another terminal, probably connected to the one currently under construction, to at least move some traffic from C/D. C/D will probably be rebuilt, or at least renovated again regardless.

How?

An Edeavor Air CRJ900 (N932XJ) has been fliped upside down during landing at Toronto from Minneapolis. No fatalities were recorded. The big question is how a CRJ landing at Toronto has gotten flipped over? I donโ€™t know but itโ€™s baffling when I first saw this.
