After i heard that it was being sent to scrap, i decided to look a little deeper into G-TUID it was quite interesting.
As you mentioned above about the technical issue, it is true but it also has one of the worst examples in TUI Airways fleet that had peeling paint. (took this from AI so take this with a pinch of salt)
I was surprised that this aircraft hasn’t even got repainted (hence why it looks bad covering the old Thompson logo)
Although its sad to see G-TUID go, i think it was probably the right choice because of so many issues making it too costly to repair, its also worth noting in the next 5-10 years we will also see much more 787s from the Early 2010 being parted out as well.
The first A321neo for Thai Airways, HS-TOA “Bowonrangsi” is now seen at Airbus Hamburg in full colours with an additional “FIRST A321neo” sticker. The aircraft performed its double rto-test prior to first flight - delivery is expected around Christmas. Thai Airways has a total of 32 A321neo on order which are equipped with 16 full flat Business class seats and 159 Economy class seats.
How on earth is that silly, then they didn’t know how much the industry would recover this quickly, more 789s are bigger (more pax as demand is high) so more revenue.
Then that’s their own fault then, of course it would’ve grow back quickly and it was when they refused it. But crazy 12 year old Dreamliner gets scrapped yet BA are flying nearly 30 year old B777-200ERs.
Not really crazy, 772s are the backbone of BAs long haul fleet and they won’t retire them all until the 777X comes, and the 772s they have are very reliable. And as mentioned before, it was a very ‘injury prone’ (dunno how else to put it) aircraft. BAs 772s are not.
Honestly air Canada is getting rid of a plane that can fly anywhere and looks awesome, for a plane yes fuel efficiency but, the nose looks weird and it can’t land in crosswind
Sorry, I was referring to the fact they’ve had a few problems /accidents-
First of the type
Then this happened
This led to a beluga flight to Heathrow!
Another event -
To be clear, I’m not saying it’s the aircraft type causing the problem, it’s merely that I heard about all three incidents at the time they happened… I’m not aware of any 777 issues along the same lines in the past couple of years. (but tell me if I’m wrong!)
Ahh! I see! Yeah they’re not to do with the aircraft itself, 1 is a tail strike and the other 2 ground crew screwing up big time, 2 ground collisions! Other then a fire onboard G-VIIO in Vegas around 10 years ago, (aircraft was repaired and now is based at Gatwick) and G-YMMM another 772 flying BA038 and due to ice crystals restricting fuel flow, it led to an engine failure so the aircraft touched down short of the runway, no fatalities thankfully, unfortunately this one couldn’t be repaired and G-YMMM was the first hull loss of a 777, there hasn’t been any major issues if I’m correct.
Yeah mean that was always going to happen, and there are rumours they might get the 777x, which you could have a joint fleet with the 787s, (because a 777 licence also is for the 787, just need extra training)
Quite sad to see and the video is quite shocking with the tail just falling off like that. Hopefully, Antonov Airlines can get there’s repaired as per the Mriya and bring it back into the skies.
Yeah maintenance prone, the 787s are not the replacements for the 777-200s, it’s the 777X, the 777-300s won’t be retired for at least another 10 years, also what BA are apparently going to do is for every 777x they get they’ll retire a -200
It suggests that the 787-9 could be an option for these airlines. The Boeing 777X has also been slated to replace older 777 variants, although ongoing delays with this aircraft’s production are making airlines nervous about using the 777X as a replacement. Simple Flying
B777-9 was alongside the A350-1000, as the replacement for B747-400, as before Covid BA was keeping them flying till 2024, B777-9 won’t be going to Gatwick. B787-10 is B777-200ER replacement.
