Air Canada is replacing the 777 and A330 for 787s that’s what I mean.
Yeah mean that was always going to happen, and there are rumours they might get the 777x, which you could have a joint fleet with the 787s, (because a 777 licence also is for the 787, just need extra training)
The world’s last operational AN22 has crashed in Ivanovo, Russia, last Tuesday (9th December), during a test flight after maintenance.
The plane broke up during the initial climb and 8 people are suspected dead.
Quite sad to see and the video is quite shocking with the tail just falling off like that. Hopefully, Antonov Airlines can get there’s repaired as per the Mriya and bring it back into the skies.
Won’t be the B777-9, it’s the B787-10 that’s the replacement. Hence why they got a backlog of 38 of them still on order.
You mean maintenance prone?
Yeah maintenance prone, the 787s are not the replacements for the 777-200s, it’s the 777X, the 777-300s won’t be retired for at least another 10 years, also what BA are apparently going to do is for every 777x they get they’ll retire a -200
It suggests that the 787-9 could be an option for these airlines. The Boeing 777X has also been slated to replace older 777 variants, although ongoing delays with this aircraft’s production are making airlines nervous about using the 777X as a replacement. Simple Flying
B777-9 was alongside the A350-1000, as the replacement for B747-400, as before Covid BA was keeping them flying till 2024, B777-9 won’t be going to Gatwick. B787-10 is B777-200ER replacement.
its not the sole replacement is what I’m getting at, the 787 and A350 and 777x will replace all the 777s and 747s, no set replacement for any fleet. The 777x is the main replacement for the older -200s however.
If it stays in JFK for a bit I might be able to see it ![]()
And if it does that flight again at the weekend I might be able to see it at Gatwick ![]()
Original before B779 was delayed, the A350-1000 and B777-9 was the replacement for the B747-400 because don’t forget BA had over 57 B747-400 was the biggest operator in 2010s.
Air India first B787-9 in the new livery. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1D66jnARya/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I’m just wondering if we’re drifting into Aviation Talking Point territory recently. A lot more discussion on past or current functions than articles and breaking news.
Yeah… probably, sorry about that!
Austrian Airlines has cancelled its wet lease contract with Swedish carrier Braathens Regional Airlines with immediate effect, reportedly due to Braathens having failed an operational audit.
According to Austrian Airlines, the Swedish operator does not meet the operational standards required by the Lufthansa Group.
Braathens had been operating a number of short haul routes out of Vienna on behalf of the Austrian flag carrier since February 2024. Austrian Airlines was compelled to engage the airline’s services as it lacked an aircraft small enough to operate some feeder routes where business demand was too low for its Embraer E195 aircraft.

The question arises, what will Austrian do and will Braathens end up doing an Eastern considering Big Braathens went bump earlier this year?
Ed Wegel, the entrepreneur behind the resurrection of defunct airline Pan Am, has stated in a social media post that the renascent airline will be operating an Airbus fleet once it commences operations, with the A320neo being the preferred option.
While the original Pan Am had strong ties with Boeing, it was also a customer for the A300 and A310.
