Why should this airline be added?
This airline was founded in 1981 and operated through a bankruptcy in the early 90s, to be a rather successful airline moving into the 2000s. The airline merged with US Airways in 2005 with that being completed by 2007, a rather strange merge as smaller America West took over bankrupt US Airways and took on the corporate identity, but with the callsign, ICAO and all the corporate staff of America West being retained. If you look at the pre AW takeover livery of US Airways and the post, you can see the influence there as well.In 2013, US Airways ceased to exist, merging with American (I say merging but American was bankrupt and looking for a buyer) and retaining the American brand and headquarters, but yet again, the US Airways head office staff were retained to run the company over American, showing how successful the original AW head office staff were at running an airline.
The reason for adding this airline would be that it has quite a big part in more recent American aviation history, its livery is really cool and its main base was in Phoenix and secondary base was Las Vegas which meant it had quite a significant presence at SAN with it regional fleet as well as flying in and out of both IAD and MSY on the regular.
Seeing as this has the callsign CACTUS and ICAO AWE, as does US Airways, if this was ever to be added, could rewind US Airways callsign US AIR and ICAO USA. AWE - US Airways
