[Other] – Expansion of Generic Airports in Central Asia

:bullseye: What is your suggestion?

This suggestion proposes further development of the Generic Airports concept in the game by introducing another airport of this type in Central Asia.

The game already includes its first generic airport — Kannur (CNN / VOKN, India). This airport represents a functional airport model based on real-world parameters (runways, weather, frequencies, and geographic placement), without requiring full 1:1 visual replication.

The idea is to add a similar generic airport located in Central Asia, within one of the following countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, or Tajikistan.

Potential real-world reference airports include:

Dushanbe, Tajikistan (UTDD / DYU)
• Aktau, Kazakhstan (SCO / UATE)
• Osh, Kyrgyzstan (OSS / UCFO)
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (TAS / UZTT)
Samarkand, Uzbekistan (SKD / UZSS)
Astana, Kazakhstan (NQZ / UACC)
• Karaganda, Kazakhstan (KGF / UAKK)
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (BSZ / UCFM)
• Shymkent, Kazakhstan (CIT / UAII)

Although these airports do not fully match the exact layout of the existing generic model (as is also the case with CNN in India), they share similar operational characteristics and structural patterns that make them suitable candidates for a adapted generic airport implementation.

:hammer_and_wrench: How would it work in the game?

The new generic airport would follow the same system already used for CNN:

• Unified environment and shared assets
• Functional realism (runway configuration, headings, weather conditions, frequencies)
• Simplified visual design without full handcrafted 3D modelling
• Easy integration into the existing route and operations system

The airport would be located in Central Asia, positioned between Europe and East Asia, making it a key transit hub within the game’s global network.

:balance_scale: Why is this a good idea?

• Expands geographical diversity within the game
• Fills an empty region on the map between Europe and Asia
• Adds new routing possibilities and improves network connectivity
• Enhances gameplay variety without increasing development workload significantly
• Aligns perfectly with the scalable nature of the generic airport system
• Strengthens Central Asia as a meaningful transit corridor

I think these ex-Soviet concrete square airports do make excellent candidates for generic airports because they are easy to make with everything at 90 degrees and normally the terminal being a concrete square. It’s not really a region I’m interested in, I struggle to play CNN or MCY because I find both boring but I think Uzbekistan has the best chance of hooking me due to the larger variety of airlines and types plus it’s a little closer than Kazakhstan to catch more types and liveries.

Generic’s really need to make a comeback, there’s so great options in Europe for them and I know some people had issue with the airports but I have no problem with CNN’s look and think plenty of countries could do with a generic airport to allow them to be in-game where they previously wouldn’t, especially in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. I’ve done a couple of suggestions for some which I think could fit as well.

I agree that, in general, the visual design of the generic airport is actually quite good, and I’m not against them at all.
However, I also agree that CNN is not really a region that personally interests me. I understand that everyone has different preferences and interests.
But this is exactly the kind of situation where generic airports are needed. They help fill in regions that might not otherwise be appealing or realistic to fully develop as handcrafted airports, while still making them playable and part of the game.

I think that some of tht airports are intresting suggestion, especially, how i say before in your other post, they can be some cool generic airport in some zone where we actually have nothing, they will also add more airlines and more non-playable airport to the game (for b-c class).

i do think we’ve had enough Asian focus, would be nice to see at some point but to see another Generic airport in Asia will be a bit overkill

I agree with East Asia but it’s a wide diverse continent and Central Asia (If you include the Indian Subcontinent as part of it cause it’s central) has 1 airport that being CNN. Actual Central Asia has a different style to East Asia and to India so it’d be cool to have one there even if I myself am not too interested. Middle East is still Asia and I don’t really see an attraction of another airport there either unless it’s the Caucasus or somewhere in Turkey as they’re all the same as MCT, but again my preference lol.

I’ve written about this topic many times before, here’s my opinion: I would like TAS, with 2 RWY´s though look also: What do you think the next US airport will be - General discussion - Flyboys.Games forum
